Using Mica on Nails.

Mica Powder on nails? Yep... you heard right. Mica powder is a fantastic way to create amazing and unique nail designs effortlessly.

There are two well known methods you can follow to apply mica powders.

Method One -

  1. Complete the nail cleaning process as per usual, and if applying acrylics cut to the desired size and apply acrylic powder.
  2. Once done, apply the base coat and cure.
  3. Lightly dip your brush in to the mica powder, and lightly dab on to the desired nail. We always recommend using a light and fluffy brush for a more natural application, however there are many different methods you can use from rubbing the mica on to the nail to painting.
  4. Finish with a top coat.

Method Two -

  1. Complete the nail cleaning process as per usual, and if applying acrylics cut to the desired size and apply acrylic powder.
  2. Once done, apply the base coat and cure.
  3. Apply a base colour, we always recommend using black or the same colour as the mica as this really helps the nails to pop!
  4. Similar to above, dip your brush in to the mica powder, and lightly dap on to the desired nail.
  5. Finish with the top coat.

If you get mica powder on the skin around the nails, lightly clean the pigment using a lint-free napkin.

We mentioned above, you can 'paint' the mica on to the nail. In a separate pot add some mica powder, with 1-2 drops of water until you get a thick consistency. This allows you to create amazing designs using a fine brush, and/or apply like nail polish! Be careful when using this method to ensure the mixture is not lumpy and bumpy.

Ombre Fade

You can use the mica to create a Ombre look on the nails. You would dab the mica powder at the base of the nail, and slowly brush towards the tip.

Nail Polish

Mica can also be used to create a shimmer to your nail polish and/or used to create your own colour! Grab a pot, and add in enough white polish. Mix in the mica colours you wish to use and apply as usual and cure! As mentioned before, ensure the mica is mixed thoroughly to prevent any bumps and lumps.

We always recommend testing the mica first prior to completing on any clients to ensure you give them the best service.

Acrylic Nails

If your client is having acrylic nails, why not let them choose their acrylic colour? Simply add some mica (you can use as many colours as you like), in to the acrylic powder and mix thoroughly. Typically it is recommended to use 1 part mica to 3 parts acrylic powder. If you would like a deeper colour, use 2 part mica. Apply as normal.

Nail Stamping

Mica Powder can also be used to create different designs on nails! Using a stencil and or free hand, lightly dab the mica on the design. You can use a range of different colours, create Ombre designs or more!

Mica powder has no limits!

Mica is extremely beneficial in the nail industry, as it helps reduce costs for yourself which allows you to reduce costs for your clients!
