How We Started
We first launched during the Covid19 pandemic. Whilst working from home, I became passionate in learning more about nails - mostly acrylics. I was absolutely obsessed with getting my nails done, as I always felt it helped define and show my personality. But as you are all aware, getting your nails done, especially from the shops in the high street is not cheap!
One day, I was browsing through Amazon, and came across this fantastic deal - a nail set which came with nail tips, acrylic powder, gel polish & a UV lamp all for £30! Biggest mistake it was purchasing this. It was terrible. The gel polish did not dry, the UV lamp was cracked & the nail tip glue was useless! Nevertheless, I carried on practising on myself until it got to the stage where I brought more and more products, from gel colours to acrylic powders from big brands such as Mylee.
Before I knew it, I had a whole desk full of nail supplies with absolutely zero idea with what to do with it… there was only so much I could practise on myself and bearing in mind I had no qualifications to be able to do other people’s nails. I reached out to my close family members which consisted of - my mum, my sister and my closest aunt and asked if I could practise on them whilst I completed my training.
Once I completed my online training, the pandemic was in full force, which is when we had our second lockdown. Having caught COVID once before, it was clear that I was not going to risk it again. I completed one official client prior (which was a friend) and decided to close my business until the pandemic calmed down.
During my spare time, I continued practising but always wondered what more I could do to expand my business.
Since being a child, glitters have always fascinated me, but as a child I always refrained from using them because of the mess that comes along with them! But as I got older, I realised all the beautiful things you can create from glitter & this is exactly how my business started!
After first launching my business, there was many mistakes and errors such as rubbish labelling, being unorganised and not realising the time that comes with running a business. After around 5 months of launching, I realised that I was not doing right by all my customers and decided to take a break.
During this break (which lasted longer than it should have), I got married, brought two beautiful dogs, and worked on rebranding my store which is where it has led us to today - May 2023 - The reopening of J&R Glitters.
We hope to do right by all of our customers, getting you the best quality products. We are a small run business and from time to time we may not always get things right! If this is the case, just drop us a message and we can get the issue resolved for you.
